Qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 years of age by July of this year
  2. You must be capable of performing all required functions of the trade. In order to do so,
    physical strength and agility are very important.
  3. Mechanical, mathematics and space visualization ability are also important.
  4. Drug free ironworker.

Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma / GED
  2. (2) Full-face 2x2 photos passport size.
  3. Proof of residency in NY (such as rent receipts, utility bills, bank statements) (Picture ID
    must match address on bills). NO P.O.Boxes accented.
  4. Proof of citizenship or permanent authorization to work in the United States.
  5. Birth certificate or passport, arid driver's license.
  6. If selected for the program, you will be required to take and pass a medical examination,
    including drug testing and a test to determine that you have no fear of heights.

How do I become an apprentice?

Local 580 uses direct entry programs. Here is a list of direct entry programs you can apply to:

Upon acceptance to a direct entry program:

  1. The programs are about 4 to 5 weeks long.
  2. Classes consist of math, safety, OSHA-30, site safety training classes, unionism,
    leadership and more.
  3. Attendance and attitude are very critical.
  4. After completion of either program, they will refer you to the trades of your choosing.

Local 580 Interview:

  1. You will be given a date for your interview.
  2. Math test (basic math)
  3. Local 580 selection process.
