A Message from Christopher Scattone, Local 580 Peer-to-Peer Director.

As both an ironworker and someone in recovery from substance abuse who has faced mental health challenges in the past, I deeply understand the transformative power of peer-to-peer (member to member) support. This program is not just about offering help—it’s about building a safe, trusted space where members can connect, share, and heal.

When a member reaches out for support, it means so much more when the person on the other end has walked the same path. Whether it’s struggling with addiction, managing mental health challenges, or coping with the unique pressures of our trade, shared experiences create trust and inspire lasting change.

At the heart of this program is an unwavering commitment to 100% confidentiality. Members can seek help with the assurance that their struggles will remain private, free from judgment, stigma, or repercussions. This trust is the foundation of our peer-to-peer program and empowers members to take that crucial first step toward healing.

Peer-to-peer assistance strengthens not only individuals but also our entire union. It fosters solidarity, reduces stigma, and ensures no one has to face their challenges alone. Together, we’re not just building skyscrapers—we’re building a stronger, healthier, and more united brotherhood and sisterhood.

Peer-to-Peer Director,

 Christopher Scattone

------ ABOUT THE PROGRAM -----

*Addiction Services
With your EAP & Peer-to-Peer Director members will receive immediate coordination for both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. With tailored detox services and ongoing support, we ensure that members receive prompt, comprehensive care and are empowered to maintain long-term sobriety.

When you reach out to your Peer-to-Peer Director, He will work closely with your EAP, Ken Toback, to create a seamless, personalized recovery plan that aligns with your unique needs.

*Support for Members and Families
Immediate assistance is available to address mental health and well-being challenges for members and their families. Compassionate, accessible support ensures no one faces difficulties alone.

*Comfortable Location of Choice
Members can see Local 580 Peer-to-Peer Director in a private setting of their choice.

*Confidential Office Visits
Members and families are welcome to meet privately with me, Christopher Scattone, for discreet discussions about mental health or recovery services. My office features a private entry to ensure confidentiality while we plan treatments or interventions. Office entry is through the side of the hall, not the front. This is a safe and secure space where your privacy is kept confidential!

*Tailored Recovery and Treatment Plans
Together with our (EAP) Ken Toback, we will create personalized mental health and recovery plans, with consistent follow-ups with your Peer-to-Peer Director to ensure progress and adjust care as needed.

*Support Beyond the Member
Families are provided with guidance and educational programs to support their loved ones through challenges related to mental health or addiction. This also includes inventions for family members if needed. Let me be your voice and help your families understand.

*Collaboration and Outreach
As Peer-to-Peer Director, I’ll work with our EAP and the Local 580 to spread awareness about mental health and recovery resources. Through outreach to the membership and apprenticeship programs, we aim to build a stronger, healthier brotherhood and sisterhood—one day at a time.
