Lipitor Generic Now Available (click here for more) - (12/13/2011)
A new generic drug called atorvastatin is now available for the brand name Lipitor, a drug often used to help lower cholesterol.
This good news means any member currently taking Lipitor, can save on their prescription drug cost if their doctor agrees that switching to the new generic drug is right for them. Members whose doctor prescribes atorvastatin will pay the lowest copay or coinsurance.
We encourage you to talk to your doctor about whether switching to atorvastatin is right for you. If so, there could be prescription drug cost savings for you in their future.
As a reminder, if you choose to take a brand name drug and there is a generic available you are responsible for the cost difference between the brand and generic as well as the co-payment.
